Mission Critical: Voice Banking for ALS Patients (Pro Bono Program)
Stephen Hawking gave a voice to the voiceless, but he was stuck with a generic robot sound for decades. Today, technology allows us to preserve the unique timbre of a human voice before it fades.
At MorVoice, we believe this technology is a human right, not a luxury product. That's why the **Voice Ark** program is free for any patient with a medical diagnosis of a degenerative speech condition.
The Science: Few-Shot Learning
In the past, 'banking' a voice required 10+ hours of studio recording. For an ALS patient who fatigues easily, this is impossible.
Our specialized medical model requires only **3 minutes** of audio. We use a 'Donor Voice' (a healthy speaker of the same gender and region) as a skeleton, and 'skin' it with the patient's acoustic features (timbre, resonance, pitch range).
Workflow for Patients & Families
Phase 1: Recording
- User logs into the Voice Ark portal
- We guide them to read 50 sentences (The 'Harvard Sentences', designed to capture all phonemes)
Phase 2: Training
- Our cluster processes the model (approx 2 hours)
Phase 3: Deployment
- The voice is deployed to a dedicated, offline-capable iOS/Android app
- Compatible with standard AAC hardware (tobii dynavox, etc.) via APIPrivacy & Ethics
A Medical Voice Clone is sensitive biometric data. We employ a 'Dual-Key' system. The voice can only be activated by the patient's physical device biometrics (FaceID/TouchID) combined with our server key.
This ensures that even if our database were breached, the voice models would be useless encrypted blobs.
